To exist in reality could lead to stagnation. To exist in ideas, one loses track of reality. To exist equally in each is to exist in a balanced world of reality and imagination.
Individuals who have big ideas and utilize these ideas in daily living truely are empowered to make a difference. The bigger the ideas the greater is the nonlinear thinking.
OK, if you're more realistic tan imaginative, you may never move ahead. If they are equal, you wil move at a seady pace. If you are willing to form new ideas perhaps you have a greater imagination.
I think that the index card reminds us that it is important to allow our critical thinking and planning to move beyond the boundaries of realities in our present circumstances.
As teachers, we always need to be thinking one (or many!) steps ahead of what we're teaching. We need to be grounded in reality, but continually cognizant of the possibilities of what we can teach our students. When you strike a balance between your reality, and the your new ideas, it's easy to implment them; when your ideas are larger than your reality can accomodate, more time and consideration may be needed before implementation. Teachers who find themselves with less ideas are stagnant. If this happens for a long period of time, they should consider retirement!!
I think that these equations could be a reflection of what happens at some school staff meetings about new initiatives. When lots of persons talk about "reality" it often means that rhey think they can't "realistically" make the change. When they brainstorm new ideas without thinking about how "realistic" the ideas are, change can happen.
If someone's mind is more set in reality than in ideas, there will be stagnation. If ideas are real and practical, they wimay be implemented. If ideas are more important than reality or ideas are greater than reality, there will be an active imagination.

I am not sure what this means!
I wonder if this index card is about authentic assessment & engaging kids in the classroom...

I think it means that in order to grow we need to always have new ideas and goals and be working towards making those a part of our reality.
Reality without ideas (creativity) leads to stagnation.
When one stops being creative, life loses its joy.

I think that this is talking about making ideas move from imagination to implementation

I would like a world with more of the imagination formula.

Ideas are the essential to growth. One must have more ideas than actions to be sucessful in your view, it seems.
I think stagnation is exactly what is stated here. Imagination is the motivator to create a new reality.

I agree with this statement. Without ideas, our lives are stagnate. We use our imagination based on ideas that often becomes reality.

Does action play any role in these equations
I like the idea of imagination creating a new reality.
